Keith Bontrager has been
making high-end aluminum mountain bike wheels longer than anyone on the planet.
He started by dumpster-picking 700c rims and re-rolling them down to 26".
Why? No one made a decent, lightweight mountain bike rim way back then. Not
until Keith Bontrager. And although he spends less time in dumpsters these days,
he still spends a great deal of time working on improving the current offerings
in mountain bike wheel technology.

Race
X Lite Tubeless
New Race X Lite wheels are completely hand built and feature ZR9000 rim
material, OSB rear rim design, and the Bontrager tubeless sealing system.
This system can be used with standard tires, tubes, or any of a wide range
of tubeless tires. It offers total flexibility for the racer needing just
the right equipment for the day.
 | ZR9000 rims are both lighter and
an amazing 20% stronger. This proprietary material has greater
resistance to rim damage and makes for a stiffer wheel. Welded for
superior strength, machined for smooth braking, and machined again for
40 grams of additional rotating weight savings. 24/28 hole design,
featuring OSB in the rear, further reduces dish and is engineered to
provide enough stiffness for even the most abusive riders
| Hubs are Swiss made, fully
serviceable, triple sealed, cartridge bearing design. System uses
proprietary aluminum axles and a star ratchet system in the rear for
added stiffness and durability
| KB's HiLo ATB rear hub design
ensures excellent spoke bracing angles for improved lateral wheel
stiffness. Aluminum freehub body should be used with aluminum-bodied
cassettes
| Spokes are super-light 14/17G
butted stainless steel with alloy locking nipples. J-bend type spoke
